SIX DAYS WITH SHELTER

SIX DAYS WITH SHELTER: It’s been six days since Ronald stopped sleeping on the ground and started living in this small house our organization built and he’s already talking differently.

He says, “Now I feel like I have to accomplish some things like getting my ID, social security card and birth certificate. I also want to see if I can reconnect with some of my family back home if I can find anyone.”

Although he has not fully transitioned out of homelessness, having a solid support system has started to build his confidence that it’s possible to start again. He says, “Being warm has given me the space to think…”

Wow. “Being warm….”

Think about it, when life happens who can you call? Maybe a mother, close friend, dad, mentor, etc.

Well, when you’re experiencing homelessness there is a social isolation and depletion of all social equity that strips your strength from community.

That’s why we urge people who make generalizations about the homeless to NOTICE THEM. Noticing someone might give someone the courage they need to keep fighting.

Over the next two weeks, we are going to help him achieve some of his goals.

If you’d like to contribute basic necessities (such as food, bus cards, etc.) until we get him back home safe and sound reach out.

66 Days Away – MAP16

Have you ever been put out of a public space because you were homeless? Have you ever been denied water because of how you looked? Or, Have you ever needed water because your water was cut off due to a lack of resources? Well, we created a free water bin so those who wrestle with poverty can have access to bottles of water. Why? Because it is a human right! This is why we are going to attempt ‪#‎MAP16‬! We are 67 DAYS AWAY!

Purpose Purses – Mother's Day!

This month, we will be collecting new and gently-used purses and bags for women that are homeless in Atlanta for Mother’s Day. We will take these purses and stuff them with beauty items, sanitary items, and hygiene products so women can continue to stay clean this summer and the rest of the year! If you would like to donate, please inbox us, email us at info@lovebeyondwalls.org, or drop them off at our College Park location. Thanks for partnering with us! ‪

Woodward Academy Serves With Us!

This past Saturday, we had a group of young men from Woodward Academy serve those who are homeless in the city of Atlanta with us. We built many wonderful relationships with our homeless friends, but more than that the young men walked away with a greater understanding of poverty and those living on the margins. One young man even said, “Those without homes in this city are stronger than people think.”

Free Laundry Room – Will You Help?

For the last six months, we’ve served families and homeless people in city and have noticed that many have a tough time washing their clothes! We are going to do something about it.

We are going to convert a room in our office into a small washroom to fill this need and give dignity to those that need a place to keep their personal items clean. Will you help? Email us to get involved.
